Ok, here is the round about way to grandfather hood.
We have one natural child, now aged 22 and engaged to be married but
does not have children yet. About eight years ago we took in three other
fourteen year olds who had been abandoned or thrown away by the adults
responsible for them. One was my niece who is married and has a two and
half year old who my wife and I are the only grandparents she knows. One of
the boys we took in got his girlfriend pregnant a little over 8 months ago.
Since then, they have broken up and the girlfriend now lives with another
boyfriend. Last night our son behaved responsibly and was there at the
birth and assumed legal responsibility as the father of his son. Given his
parents and his mother's relatives, I expect he will need a lot of
grand-parenting over the next twenty years or so. We will be there for him
in any way we can.

Hi Jim, Unfortunately, it seems that this is the era that grandparents are raising grandchildren, but God Bless You that you are there for both your kids, etc and, especially, the grandchildren. I hope that everything you ever wish for, comes true. I always enjoyed your posts, but I like them better now, and just wish that I had the time (and the place) to start and stoke a pecan fire to roast my beans.
