Does anyone on the list have any new information on the prospects for a home roaster with a larger capacity than the 3-4 oz. of most current models? There had been some suggestion late last year that Hearthware, perhaps, was preparing such a product for sale soon. homeroast mailing listhttp://lists.sweetmarias.com/mailman/listinfo/homeroast |
Great question! I'm curious about this too. I recently came across something called the "Caffe Rosto" which supposedly does 6-8oz, and sells for $150 or so.http://www.brightway.com/I'm not sure if the design would work or not. Has anyone actually used this? Apologies if this machine was already discussed before - I only joined this mail list about 2 weeks ago. None coming soon. Claims are made of the Caffe Rosto with a 6-8 oz roasts.
I couldnt get any batch size down to 2 oz to roast well. It had chaff
collection problems and test model had rubber seals not seated right,
leading to heat escape.
what we dont do on this list is post links to commerical coffee web sites.
If you want to find something you can use a search engine and go get it.
Its probably safe to assume that we have looked into a machine like this
when it was new, and its exclusion from our stock probably says enough
about how it tested...

I haven't seen or heard about this one either, but I'd want to see what Tom has to say before buying one. He usually has the inside track on the newer roasters and whether they are any good. I'd like to see someone make a decent fluid bed that does at least a half pound and doesn't cost $2200. Maybe Hearthware will do it.
