Topic: Starbucks price rise.... (2 msgs / 36 lines)
1) From: Angelo
I read in the NY Daily News a short item that said Starbucks is going to
raise their already inflated prices (amount to be determined) because of
the price of milk..
Isn't milk that stuff that dairy farmers, from time to time, pour out on
the ground in quantities of millions of gallons?
And coffee is that stuff that the growers are getting $.20 a lb for?
If it's not one thing, it's another....

Yes it is, but the price that dairy farmers are paid for milk has
little or nothing to do with the price that the public pays for milk,
just as the price of coffee at Starbucks has little or nothing to do
with the price that growers receive. And, just as coffee growers
sometimes find the price so low that it's not worth picking the
cherries, dairy farmers sometimes find the price so low that it's not
worth the cost to sell their milk. But, they still have to milk the
cows twice a day and that's why the milk gets dumped out -- that and
that it also helps publicize their plight.
