Topic: Jumping Beans (4 msgs / 78 lines)
1) From: Gregg Talton
After roasting my Sunday Morning coffee this afternoon, I brought the
cookie pan that I use after cool down into the house and placed in on
the counter. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it... Beans
(three or four over the course of 30 minutes) literally jumped off the
pan and into the floor. The horizontal distance was about 18 inches.
Is this normal? They did jump towards the press pot - maybe they were
ready.

Were they Mexican? I remember when I was a kid I bought Mexican jumping
beans at a local agricultural fair. They sort of looked like coffee beans
but were rounder.

Panamanian ... I'll have to order some Mexican and try it too.

Greg,
While I cool in a collander, I've seen similar jumps. It's usually
when I stop a roast just into second, or just before. Some beans will go
ahead and hit the second crack, and POP! Makes for an interesting
cooling cycle!
