Topic: Any Thoughts On Modifying a Popaire II Hood for a Poppery II? (2 msgs / 36 lines)
1) From: Oaklandguy
Hi, all.
The hood on my great Poppery II has begun warping (of course). I have a
Popaire II hood that's really heavy, hard plastic (with a little
whirly-gig thing on top to control heat and view the beans) and would
like to get it to fit my PII.
I'd like to try and fit the longer/narrower Popaire hood onto the top of
the shorter/wider PII. I've searched the archives and WWW, but can't
find any mods like this.
Any thoughts/ideas on how I could do this would be greatly appreciated
(keeping in mind I'm not an engineer and don't have tools for remolding
plastic except my electric oven).
Am I still a newbie if I'm already trying to mod the PII? :)
Brent

Just thought that I would mention that if you don't actually need the hood (i.e. of you are roasting outside or -- like me -- in a garage), you can get by without it with no negative consequences. I use an empty tin can (with the ends taken off) as a chimney (to keep the beans from going all over the place) and have had no negative impact from not using the hood. Obviously if you need the top to keep the chaff under control this will be off no help.
