Hey all, I am guessing that this question is prolly one you all have had to answer 1 too many times ;-) I picked up a cory vaccum pot over the weeked for a price that was just right, free ;-). This old goat seems in overall good condition and complete with the exception of the main gasket. At the time my friend(who gave it to me) and I were not sure if the material used for this was rubber or bakelite, if that give one a sense of the condition of the gasket. Anywho, its real hard and doesnt make for a happy seal. I am unaware of any magic that can be performed on old rubber to make it nice and supple again. Are there any suppliers that would be carry said gasket? Or am I gonna have to widdle a new one from a block of food grade rubber? Any info at all would be fantastic. Hey all, As a status upd, the email addr for the fellow contempating manufacturing replacement gaskets is dead, so if anyone has a vaid addr for him that would be great. Thus far I have also tried the amonia soak trick but that didnt do too much for me, gasket way to far gone I suppose. So next I am gonna see about geting a gasket manufacturer interested. I am guessing that they wont be interested and I will end up perhapse having to get a block of rubber from them and working it by hand. Also wondering if anyone has tried to cast the gasket in plaster and then filling mold with some form of nontoxic goo that would harden to something that would operate as a gasket. I suppose that at some point the time I have into this will be worth more than the cost of a new Cona but... we'll see. Ed, I looked in my files and came up with this message I saved from the alt.coffee group. I'm not sure which email address you say is dead...it might be this one. I'm reprinting this message in case someone might be interested in contacting this gentleman. Ciao, Angelo <Snip> "I am pleased to announce that Andy Powell, of Casco Bay Molding in Maine has just introduced the world's (as far as I know) first food grade silicone replacement gasket for the narrow-necked (LK body) Silex vacuum pots. Just so you know, I loaned Andy my best gasket to use as a mold for the tooling! The gasket selected is the one with the dovetail notching at the top so it can be used with the double handle Silex uppers as well as the plain uppers. The new gaskets are work great and I have also had success using them with other old vacpots which have the same size funnel and lower bowl opening, such as the White Cross, early Vaculator, Samson and Cafex. This is a very exciting development for those of us who collect, use and love our ancient vacpots! I believe Andy has put the gaskets up on e-Bay, but to be sure, you can contact him at andyp If we support his pioneering effort (and let's face it, this was an unorthodox product to undertake) maybe we can get him to invest in tooling for MORE gaskets such as the wide-neck (W body) Silex, the wide and narrow-necked Cory's, the GE's, etc. I know this sounds crazy, but ever since I started collecting and exclusively using vacpots to brew coffee, I have always dreamed of a day when unlimited gaskets for my favorite pots might be available. My vacpot runneth over!
