Topic: database questions (4 msgs / 203 lines)
1) From: petzul
Well, I hope this is the last question I have, but probably not.
Thank you very much for the link; I downloaded the data base and did a
clean install.
I think I entered in the coffees I just received properly in the
"Coffees" section.
Now I want to do a 'Daily Log' and when I click on it a little box comes
up telling me to "Create a Category Type named exactly "log Type", then
Create Categories with this type to create Log Entry Types." and an OK
box. When I click on the OK a form comes up that seems to be unusable.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
PeterZ
Bewildered by databases, here in LHC.

Peter,
From the Help file for the Coffee Roasting DB:
   5. Daily Log Form
1. Before making entries in the Daily Log Form, you need to create =
log
categories. Access the Categories Form by clicking Categories in the =
Main
Menu.
2. In the Categories Form, click Edit Types and create a Category =
Type
named exactly "Log Type".
3. Create one or more categories with that type. These will appear =
in
the Entry Type and Filter By Type dropdown boxes in the Daily Log form.
4. In the Main Menu form click Daily Log to open the form.
5. You will be prompted about creating the Entry Types until you
create the first log entry.
6. Create entries, using the dropdown box to specify the type of
entry. You can leave it blank if you choose and just make a comment.
7. The date is set when you save. You can change it by clicking on =
it
to bring up the same Time Adjustment Form used in session time editing.
8. You can filter to view only a particular entry type.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
Oh my, I wish I would get over this flu bug.
Thanks Brent. I just looked in the folder I made and found the 'Help File'.
No more stupid questions, I promise.. maybe.

Peter,
Heck, everyone knows that there's no such thing as a stupid question.
Otherwise, I'd be in huge trouble! :)
In reality, I'm not sure this part of the DB works. I recall trying it =
when
I first got the DB and thought it didn't work even with the "Log Type" =
entry
the help recommends. Then thought it didn't look like I needed to use =
it.
I've just been using it to track coffee beans, roast times, flavors, =
etc.
So haven't found a need for the Daily Log.
Let us know if it works. Do you think it's useful? How will you use =
it?
I've been home all week with the flu, and it's miserable. First time in =
20
years I've been sick for more than 3 days. You have my sympathy. Hang =
in
there.
Brent
