Topic: Espresso.....NOT! (2 msgs / 57 lines)
1) From: Rick Copple
Well, today I stopped by a local coffee shop to try their espresso. I
had hopes that this might be good, since they do roast their own coffee.
However, they do seem to have the tendency to over roast their
beans...apparently following the Char$$ model.
But what I ended up with was even worse than I might have expected.
I had just paid for the "espresso" and a donut. I had eyed what looked
like an espresso machine in one corner, and was preparing to time the
shot with my watch. Suddenly I realized she was over at another machine
and was putting the lid on the cup.
What was that hanging down there?? Sure didn't look like a portafilter.
Kind of long thing with a couple holes at the bottom. Stick the cup
under it and I guess she must have just pressed a button or something
because I missed it. Didn't see any grinding or even getting grinds out,
no tamping or pulling a shot.
Hum, I'll try to be open minded here and see what this taste like. It
was bitter, no sweet at all. Creama disappeared quickly, tasted like
charred tile brewed to perfection!
I think the machine they used was what you would find in a convenience
store to dispense espresso and cappacinoes from. Really sad.
So, maybe there is room in this town for a really good coffee shop after
all!
Well, at least the donut was good.

It is really sad isn't it Rick. I have not heard much from our wild and
woolly Pro Chris Tacy of late. I wish a dude like him or Chris himself woul=
d
go on the consultant trail and get these people straightened out. Twenty
minutes in an open minded shop in Albuquerque and I had them pulling shots=

they hadn't even imagined. Chis has forgotten more about coffee than I will=

ever know. Problem is they don't care. Problem is people will pay for their=

swill. (Enjoying a fine vac pot of Indian Parchment as I type.)
