Topic: Decaf blends (4 msgs / 94 lines)
1) From: Derek Bradford
Hi All,
I'm looking to try some of Tom's decafs (already tried and will
reorder Donkey), and I want to blend for espresso, mostly for
cappuccinos. What blends have you used? I have no idea what to
expect from the beans; my only experience with decaf is with Donkey,
which I've roasted a grand total of 3 times.
Thanks,

I started listing all the decafs I have on hand and I've tried in the
past and like. I found there are only four I haven't tried and loved.
Tom also had a Peru Norte decaf and Guatemala decaf that was great,
but they are now gone. I guess the ones I marked below are my
favorites, but they are really all very good. I probably drink at
least 42 oz of decaf a day and it is just delicious.
I've tried:
Brazil Mogiana WP Decaf
Colombian WP Decaf
Costa Rica SHB WP Decaf
Ethiopian WP Decaf (Sidamo) - Yummmm! great in blends
Indonesian Organic SWP Komodo Blend
Mexico Esmeralda Natural Decaf - Yummmm! great in blends
Sweet Maria's Decaf Espresso Donkey Blend - great in blends
Tanzania Peaberry WP Decaf - Yummmmm! - great in blends
The only ones I haven't tried yet, but I think I need to:
Kenya AA WP Decaf
Nicaragua Matagalpa WP Decaf
Sumatra Mandheling WP Decaf
Sulawesi Toraja WP Decaf

I really like the sulawesi decaf. I think my
favorite would be the Ethiopian sidamo or the costa
rica shb decaf. When Tom has it, the decaf monsooned
malabar is fantastic!

The Sidamo was the first of Tom's decafs I ever tried, and it was the
one that made me a believer. Also have had the Brazil Mogiana,
Espresso Donkey (one of the best espressos, hi-test or unleaded), and
my fave thus far: Guatemala Huehuetenango. (My sister has informed me
that from now on, all she wants for birthdays and Christmas/Chanukah
is a pound of that). Just roasted some of the Costa Rica SHB decaf
and am waiting for it to outgas.
