Interesting, My Kitchen Aid has scoring on that surface as well.  I didn't
run into the same level of inconsistancy you reported (it was better than m=

blade mill), but I was disapointed when I first got it as it still would
stall the vac pot (one of the primary reasons for getting a new grinder in
the first place).  I could never convince myself that it was less consistan=
t
than coffee ground at the local roaster or Starbucks, and never had another
burr grinder to compare to.  But, with what you're saying, maybe I'll give
kitchenaid a call and see how good their costomer service is.
