My coffee and I have been lurking on this list for a while and roasting
for a while longer.  When I saw you folks discussing campfire roasting,
I could not resist.
I LOVE roasting over a campfire, especially in a crowded campground. =
It always draws people over to chat.  I use a cast iron skillet, or a
dutch oven.  I throw up to a pound of beans in and stir with a wooden
spoon.  The roast is always by the seat of my pants.  A pound roast is
necessary because by the time I show them the air popper and green
beans, I have to grind up a bunch of beans and hand them out with
instructions to wait till morning to partake.  Always have most of the
people come back the next morning and ask where to get the beans.  They
are refereed to Sweet Marias of course!

I have a small drum on a steel spit rod that I use to roast on campouts.http://www.homeroaster.com/tinydrum.htmlI move it to the end of the spit instead of the middle like I would with my 
grill/roaster and cantilever it over the red coals with a strong forked 
stick.  I toss them in a steel pan to cool them.  Yummy.
