I bought a Sharper Image *BEAN VAC* a few weeks ago. It is just a canister which holds a pound or slightly more of beans or grounds. It has a motor which, when you close it, activates to remove all air from the inside of the container. The first time I stored coffee in it and then opened it, the aroma was just wonderful. Reminded me of the days when my mom would open a can of coffee from the market with that little built in key thingie they used to include. You'd hear that, *whooooosh* as the air rushed into the can, and smell that wonderful aroma. The *whoooosh* is back. I highly recommend one of these gadgets. Slightly pricey ad $39 bucks, but, hey, we pay $50 a pound for the coffee that goes into it, why not $39 to protect its flavor for awhile. Jeff |
I have used the VacuVin container and pump for years. A few pumps and you have a strong vacuum. I can also use the Foodsaver to extract from the canister. I think they sell for about $20... And you can use it to take the air out of your wine bottles... <Snip> |
I have tried to "Mildly propose" that my daughter's Sharper Image at Flatirons Crossing in Broomfield, CO, carry some coffee prep equipment. From roasters to real grinders and brewers to a couple of flavors of espresso makers. What the heck- home roasters can always make do with the odd popcorn popper and sandwich saver. Wonder if I should show her how one can use a food saver? Cheers -RayO, aka Opa! -- "When the theme hits the bass, I dance the Jig!" - -Virgil Fox at the Mighty Wichita WurliTzer- 1976 |
