Although I agree that most future discussions about the database project should be conducted off the list I have a point to make that is relevant to a larger audience. That is the subject of a web host. I believe that the site hosting the database should be permanent. In other words, the arrangements we make for web hosting should not be dependent upon the whims and fancies of any one participant in the project. Tom should enter into an arrangement with the web host in a business-like manner and Tom should then dole out access privileges to those who will be doing the development. Tom should have the right to deny privileges to anyone who abuses them or who drops out of participation. The site should be registered through sweetmarias. That doesn't mean the site must cost money. There are plenty of free web hosting services out there that would work for a project of this nature. Anyone can review these options at freewebspace.net and other such places. One web host that gets consistently good reviews is freedom2surf.net. This host provides 20MB of space, good response time, database connectivity and no requirement for cooperative advertising. There are undoubtedly others of this caliber. Don |
