It appears that there are a few thermos-type coffee machines ($30 to $200) with no heating plate on market. I would like to hear from people who actually use them about what you think about the machine you use. One of my office has Black and Decor model (paper basket filter) which seems to work fine. I like the idea of having no heating plate (little energy wasted) but what's the benefit of it if one serves all coffee within 10 minutes? Most thermos models seem to have 8-cup capacity which is good - the smaller the better for me. I've tried one of those cheap one-mug capacity machine that drips into an insulated mug. The water boiling element is cheap but it worked better than I thought. The problem is that the filter is too small to make coffee of my preferred strength - with fresh roast the bubbles explode. They also use nylon filter of non-standard size that I don't like but not easy to replace. I'm still using my Hario drip pot with cotton filter -- I think it makes superior filter coffee than paper and SwissGold but I'm lazy in a winter morning :-) -- Ryuji Suzuki "I can't believe I'm here.
