Can't speak directly to running the USRC 1# since running a USRC 3k model. (For reference 1# has 5k BTU burner versus 3k 25k BTU) The start up acquisition costs aside which are substantial, the roasting cost in propane comes to approximately as low as $0.05 per LB depending on batch sizes roasted and how many batches roasted in a session. Total cost per LB over time is complicated to calculate. Need to factor not just initial capital outlay but how depreciation etc. affects tax bottom line etc. If buying a small commercial roaster for strictly personal use with zero selling and hence no business write offs would be another matter. But if using with some customers (and reporting as a business to IRS) the actual bottom line "cost" over time would be much less than what you paid up front. You don't even have to "initially" report a business profit to the IRS to take advantage of business tax savings, just intent to profit. Of course if you don't eventually report a profit they'll re-classify the activity as a hobby not a business and kiss your current (and past) claimed business expense deductions good-bye.
