Andy, of course the coffee was lousy! In the bill of sale it sez that they have coffees sitting around that they'll include in the selling. Vomit! But then again, what's another several months of stale after it's already stale??? bill Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |

"Don't think I'm not tempted!" Me, too- I think I'm not tempted. Look at his feedback. Hate to pass up all that coffee! "Lost Lease"- to a person who makes money, I assume, Leasing Things. I would have to take his "Grossed $200,000 last year" with about 5 lbs of salt! With that supposed gross revenue, he would be able to find another spot to set it up, "fer shure". Hmmmm... $200,000 sales per year Assume avg sale of $4 Assume 7 day operation a week Assume 8 hrs open time/day That's *one sale every 3.5 minutes* continuously when open, which basically means there is always a customer at the window. Somehow I doubt that. I wondered the same sort of thing... had ~200K in sales and is just folding up the tent that easily? I suppose a kiosk in a great location could do ~1K/day in sales, though I'm just making a WAG on that.... seems like a LOT of lattes going through the window there. cheers, Scott On Wed, Sep 24, 2008 at 2:41 PM, wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
Right... even if some larger purchases are made by selling roasted beans or boxes of tea, chocolates, muffins, etc., that's a pretty sweet sum for a kiosk, IMO. The check average in my shop ... just looked at last week's numbers: $4.63... That's in store sales and does not include wholesale accounts. cheers, Scott On Wed, Sep 24, 2008 at 2:58 PM, Justin Marquez wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
I also wondered about his figures. However there is a real niche for this type of business. My daughter in Portland has 2 children. One is 4 the other 2 years old. She stops at a kiosk every day for coffe on the way to drop the kids off for daycare. I asked her why she didn't stop at Stumptown on the way to work. She passes right by one of their stores. She said if she did that she would have to, find a parking space, take both kids out of their car seats, take them in the store, get the coffee and then repeat the process over. It is so much easier to stop at a drive in and get her caffeine fix even though the quality of the coffee is no where as good as Stumptown. I am sure there are plenty of other people out there with similar situations. If one could make a quality brew and get a good location it could be lucrative. If I know a drive-through kiosk's coffee is first-rate, I find that a tremendous plus--especially when on the road between gigs when time is of the essence and we actually take our meals in the car (I prefer to wait until it's someone else's shift before I eat what I've purchased-- as a dieter, I usually order something that requires a fork to eat). We have relatively few of these here in the Chicago area--there are a few drive-through Starbucks, and Krispy Kreme has always offered espresso and espresso drinks (albeit from superautos)--but when I spy an indie one, I always try it. Should also add that my espresso-drink epiphany came from one of these. I had been reading Schomer's and other espresso blog sites and when in Seattle in '97 had been searching for Vivace as I cruised along B'way (no agenda intended!) in Capitol Hill. Saw a sign for Caffe d'Arte (which I'd been told had good 'spro), and followed the arrow into the parking lot behind (I think) a Crate & Barrel to its drive-through kiosk. Ordered a skim cappa, took a sip, and indignantly told them I did not order a mocha and could not have all that sugar. The barista laughed and told me that WAS a skim cappa, nothing added. That was my intro to fresh light-roasted beans--Firenze--and microfoam. $200k annual gross not necessarily out of line at all for a drive-thru. From research I've done $1k gross per week day is not that uncommon for a prime location drive-thru. That's for a prime location of which they be few and far between. Very high morning traffic count with easy access on the correct side of the street.... OK- I've seen this sort of thing on Craig's List. With the little 4WD Bronco, I had thought of setting up a schedule of rest stop visits in the area. Truckers might appreciate seeing Specialty coffee fresh roasted on the spot, on the CB radio service, maybe. Dunno how many FCC rules violated. With a Mini Winnie on a 1-T truck chassis, no tether to a particular location in the Rocky Mountain springtime. Ship and receive from UPS or local Post Office. $200 Big might not cover expenses, if one could even do it. Are you aware that in truck stops they sell mini deep fryers for truckers to plug into their cig lighters for the co-pilot to fry away as they drive down the road? I've seen them in the flesh. Maybe, if they were just finishing up a batch of funnel cakes as they pull up they might want a proper cup of joe, you know, for dunking :-) On Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 12:20 AM, wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
