Im thinking of getting the Technivorm KBTS - 8 thermal brewermy question is does anyone have one? on the web there are various criticisms of the quality of the caraf. also does anyone know what the Technivorm 9 Hole Water Sprayhead addition is for and is it needed? there also seem to be some models with a glass carafe and a ? plastic long probe that goes down into the carafe. many thanks! I've had one for a couple of years now. It's definitely the best drip coffee maker I've ever owned. All the Technivorms now come with the 9 hole spray head. The one on Sweet Maria's page is a replacement for older ones. The caraf does not keep the coffee hot long enough in my opinion. It will keep it hot for an hour or so. I decant the coffee into a thermos if I'm not going to use it all right away. The ones with the glass caraf has a hot plate to keep the coffee hot. I've never liked the flavor of coffee kept hot this way, I'd rather use a thermos. I have a technivorm with the glass caraffe. I dislike the metallic taste I perceive from stainless. The glass caraffe is easy to clean; easier than the stainless caraffe I beleive. As for keeping coffee warm, I don't - I drink it! The model with the glass caraffe does have a heater. When the pot is done, I immediately turn it off. That heater will destroy flavor and make the coffee turn vile. I'd rather have cooler coffee than burnt coffee. This occurs even with the heater on low. I've been tempted to disconnect it internally. I have both single- and multiple-hole sprayheads. After multiple tests, I can't see a difference in taste, wetting or temperature in the cone. From my perspective, either one works well. All in all, I'd say the Technivorm is the best automatic drip brewer I have used. I have the Moccamaster and like it a lot. I agree the carafe isn't as thermally efficient as thermos bottles, but usually the contents are gone before that is a problem. I'll have to look into the 9-hole sprayhead - that should bring it up to par. Some tricks to make the Technivorm function optimally. 1.Rinse the carafe in hot water and fill it with hot water. Leave the hot water in the carafe until ready to have brewed coffee drip into the carafe. 2. As soon as coffee has filled the carafe screw the lid on the carafe. When pouring a cup of coffee only loosen the cap 1/4 turn. This procedure insures keeping the brew as hot as possible without having to reheat it. 3. Rinse the paper filter in running water before placing it in the brew chamber. Rinsing the paper cleans any paper dust that may be adhered to the filter. In addition rinsing the paper will make it adhere to the plastic brew chamber and prevent it from collapsing on itself and causing a flood of coffee on your counter top. 4. Finally, start your brew with the selector on X so that no water drips into the carafe. When there is enough water mixed into the grounds (approx. 2 cups) stir the brew in the brew chamber to break the crust.Open valve to 1/2 open and allow the brew to finish. Cap as soon as brew is finished. I love my KBT, but I had so many problems with it overflowing, no matter how I adjusted the grind or the flow valve, so I just removed the flow valve and have not had a problem since. I agree with the carafe not being very thermal, so I pour it immediately into my Krups carafe and then it is good to go for many hours. Get it and enjoy it. Mine has a glass carafe with the Fill-from-the-bottom device. From the start, I followed Tom's brewing tips for the TV. Following Tom's instructions obviates the multi-hole distribution arm, although I presume they have one of their own implements, still close the basket valve when starting the brew, stir it and open the valve half way. Then there's Ray's way. Mine dispenses 200° F water, exactly as advertise= d. I don't suppose the water stays at 200° when it drops into 40° grounds*= in a 70° basket. Add 40°*+ 70°= 110° light weight stuff. Average with 200° water, = get 187° F brewing temperature, and that's exactly what I measure. It brews at 187° = F, max not 200. *[Beans are flash frozen for 5 minutes, prior to grinding. Maybe heated a little, never get hot or even warm] I preheat the basket with boiling water (201 - 202° F) but 187° is the absolute max I see. Who cares about the ways and means- the taste is fabulous without any amendments. Cheers, Mabuhay, Lloniannau i coffi gwych -RayO, aka Opa! If you are having poor thermal carafe performance contact Boyds (the US importer) at inquiries and they should help you. My coffee was luke warm after only an hour. They sent me out a replacement carafe and its much better. It still not Thermos performance but my coffee was still hot after 4 hours today. If your carafe is hot to the touch, as mine was, immediately after brewing you have a bad carafe. My new one only gets slightly warm at the very top, the bottom stays completely cool. Thanks for the heads-up, RIchard. Always wondered why the carafe felt hot, but rarely have we had a chance to tell the coffee's temp. after an hour because it's long gone. I would never have a thermal carafe anything. I have a *Technivorm CD and love it. A great machine. If I need more coffee I simply dump what may be left and make more. I love my Technivorm and when I work my weekends, I make 4 pots of coffee to last all weekend, since I can't bring my own coffee maker to the Pediatric ICU I work at and so I rely on a microwave to heat it up. It has been fun learning which beans allow coffee to be reheated or not. It doesn't taste quite as good as when I get to enjoy them at home, but it beats all of my other options I have tried. Yes, if I had time to do a pour over or such I would, but oftentimes, I have 30 seconds to a minute to reheat a little bit till the next free moment. So that was why I bought theThermal Carafe version rather than the glass version. I will say my old Krups's Thernal Carafe is better at keeping it warm, so I will compare and get back to Technivorm on it.
