One more opinion: I don't comment here often, but I get tired of the Techivorm hype, I have used it. I have been roasting coffee now for 5 years. I am an amateur barista and a coffee lover. I have tried just about all the various brewing techniques and electric gadgets. My favorite between the Technivorm and the Zojirushi is the Zojirushi by a length. If you factor in cost it wins by a lap. I have measured the brewing water temp of both and found maybe 1 degree difference. However the Zojirushi has a very good quality insulated brew basket and you have infinite brew time adjustments controlled by when you place the stainless pot under the basket. Much better than trying to use the crude slider on the flimsy Technivorm brew basket. The Zojirushi is a very nice machine. After I tried it I gave the Technivorm away and bought a spare Zojirushi in case they ever stop making them. Wishing you all good coffee, Ross |
That's the first mention I've seen of the zojirushi. Any more info? model? Thanks! Dave Some days... Anyway, Amazon knows about it, and the reviews seem to be divided into two hostile camps. The majority love their Zorishu, but there must have been at least one really really bad batch of them or something, 'cause there are 'way too many reviews of articles that literally fell apart. There was one great (positive) review that discussed something I'd never noticed (haven't used a normal autodrip machine in literally decades) about having the not particularly insulated hot water feed tube run through the cold water tank. Makes some of the things I've read recently about using warm-to-hot water in the feed tank make a lot more sense... Anyway, in light of the apparent QC issues, if I were in the market for a drip machine with a nice thermal carafe and all that, this would be one to look at. But I think I'd forget about the possible savings from online shopping in favor of a local retailer in case I got one of the fall-apart ones. :-/ -- "What's so funny? "I gave the Technivorm away [Pferdescheiße!] and bought a spare Zojirushi in case they ever stop making them." [What are you afraid of? The Zo is just a machine- so are you really sure the damn Zo is going to break? How many spare cars do you keep, since they're more likely to break due to the tyranny of numbers in the complex machines and which one do you think you'll be giving away?] Isn't reality Hell, especially when you just want to treat Sweet Maria's beans right? It was like crossing the Great Flavor Divide when I got the TechniVorm several thousand brew cycles ago. No part of it has ever failed. I would quickly shift to the stove top Moka pot, Vietnamese filter pot, Turkish, Greek or Cuban brewing style if it did fail. Which do you favor? The Crapesso already lived up to its assigned moniker. Now I know how not to break it and still keep the "rebuilt" machine pristine and clean. When you decide you want a 210 second brew extraction time, when would you shove the pot back in the Zo? Is it too late if the basket starts to overflow before the brew time completes? Seems like it could be the Broom Scene all over again in the Sorcerer's Apprentice if you try to stop the percolating mid-cycle. Tell us more. Cheers, Mabuhay, Iechyd da -RayO, aka Opa! Got Grinder?
