This would be a fun topic - I have definitely seen vacuum brewing in
older films but I will make note of it next time I see it ... I was
surprised to see Chemex brewing in Doris Day's film Pillow Talk. I
had seen the conspicuous use of the Chemex in From Russia With Love.
I know I have seen vacuum brewing in a few 20s - '30s era movies but
will have to rake my brain to remember which.
I doubt there is a film with aeropress in it, nor will there be! Not
very graceful or cinematic

The Royal Vacuum coffee maker was featured pretty prominently in the Bucket List. While not a coffee maker, I just noticed the white witch in the latest Alice in Wonderland (with Johnny Dep) using a pouring kettle that I'm envious of to make a potion. Of course, you can thank Fellini for his use of real barista's as backdrops to his movies for an espresso technique named after him. It's funny, though, that when you mentioned the AeroPress, I could totally picture it in a Mel Brooks film. -Chris On Sun, Dec 19, 2010 at 8:43 PM, Tom & Maria - Sweet Maria's Coffee < sweetmarias> wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/mailman/listinfo/homeroast_lists.sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |

I haven't had that machine for years. I went to a Gaggia with a 3-way valve. Actually, I wish I still had it. About all you can do, is wait for the pressure to subside. If you're careful, you can slightly loosen the portafilter to let the pressure out. It gets better when the grind and tamp is right, though. Bob |

Then there was an episode of "The Sopranos," in which, after Edie's crummy Krups steam-toy machine goes blooey, Paulie sends them an all-bells-and-whistles eagle-topped Elektra Micro-Casa Semiautimatico--to which Edie responds, "You need a pilot's license to work this thing." I see Press Pots regularly in films & British TV series. In an episode of the Inspector Lewis series we were watchin last night an 8C glass press pot was used to serve coffee. Espresso features prominently in the Swedish films The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo & The Girl Who Played with Fire. Lots of coffeebar scenes & in one scene inside Lisbeth's very sparsely furnished apartment in the second film a quick pan of the kitchen reveals a nice stainless espresso machine & what looked like a big Mazzer next to it with a hopper full of beans. Very light on the furniture but lots of coffee! John B.
