Topic: Does Sumatra not Crack? (27 lines)
1) From: Paul Jolly
Well, there WAS Krakatoa...even thought it was
closer to Java...perhaps the whole archipelago
got all of its cracks out in one big bang?
Seriously, I've never come across a bean that
goes through a roast properly and doesn't crack
twice. My current Sumatran does. But some beans
are louder than others---which I have a (totally
irrational) gut feeling has to do with bean
hardness. I roasted some Guatemalan yesterday
from last year's crop and almost hit the deck
when first crack started. BANG! BANG! it went.
Perhaps the Sumatran is just a bit quieter...
Cheers,
Paul
