Just getting into home roasting. I started with a thrift shop Poppery II and found batches of Monkey Blend having dificulty reaching second crack. Spent the big bucks today on a brand new West Bend Hot air Popper. First batch went very well. I heard the cracks and things went well in 7-8 minutes. I attempted to do a second batch and found that I got nowhere near second crack without letting the machine cool 10+ minutes. I can even hear the thermostat protection cutting in and out! A) how many consecutive batches are other able to do? B) How can I remove the thermal protection switch? Walt Dan Piette wrote: <Snip> |
I have no trouble doing consecutive batches in the low end Hearthware roaster. I do add a few minutes to the cool off cycle of each batch though. /monty At 02:57 PM 11/30/00 -0500, you wrote: <Snip> |
I do not run consecutive batches in my popper, but I preheat before the roast so I guess that qualifies. I am not aware of the thermal switch cutting out, mine may have a higher setpoint. Others have disabled the switch by either bending the arm so that it will not open or shorting the contacts with a heavy wire. Poppers with the solid bottom and side inlets do a good job of mixing the beans for even roasting. The agitation is much better than my Aromaroasts with screen bottoms. The beans look like they have a satin finish from the polishing action. If the beans do not mix well at the start, you are using too much. -- Ken Mary - Aromaroast & Popper - whirlyblade - decanter ---------- <Snip> <Snip> |
