For anyone who has had an interest in my RK drum posts, just an update. I got the replacement motor yesterday and all I can say it is the best customer service remedy I ever got. The higher rpm motor, 30 vs 20, is really built well. It's rugged and has a great cooling fan, it is the best $7 upgrade I could've made and posts here seem to indicate the higher rpm will be better. The only snag in my plan is that I was going to use the router control to vary the speed and it doesn't look like it makes a big difference. I'm not an engineer but I guess its because its a reduction motor and the change in the motor's rpm doesn't change the output too much- wrist-watch timing looks to be about 4 rpm. Derek |

Ron et al, The faster motor works like a charm. Just did a regular blend and decaf blend each of 4 pounds. First crack came at 16:50 and 16:30 respectively, finished each at 19:50-20:00. A great improvement over the 28 minute roasts that were a little uneven. Very nice even City- Full City roasts. Can't wait to cup! Thanks to all who advised! Derek |

My experience is that any roast over 18 minutes is too long. I
like to be able to finish at 15 to 17.

Sounds like a winner Derek, I think the upgrade to faster motor, such as a geardrive 30 to 60 rpm is a worthy investment for gas grill drum roasting. it is much easier to get an even roast and will out last the std. rotisserie motor. Although the std will do the job it will not last very long if you continue to roast 3 to 4 lbs. The extra weight that far off center pushes the capability of the small 6 rpm motor. Ron |
