Ben,
Based on previous posts from you and mike I've settled on a similar =
set-up, except that the hurricane lamp extension is on top of the black =
plastic piece. My questions are:
What sort of max load do you roast in your P1?
How tall is your hurricane lamp extension?
Where/how is your thermometer mounted? Or do you use a thermocouple?
I have been reluctant to eliminate the plastic piece because I don't =
want to drill a hole in the lower metal portion of the P1. Don't know =
why, it just seems like a more permanent change. But now that I have a =
2nd P1 I feel a bit more adventuresome.

252 grams, so far, I could probably tilt it more and get more coffee in,
but I'm getting close to 8 oz roasted.

9 & 1/2 inches

Before the pid I sent it right down the middle of the hurricane,

drilled through the side, about an inch below the lamp

It only hurts for a minute, but I didn't do it until I got the PID, then
I compared the two for a few runs.

Thanks Ben, it'll probably be some time in Feb before I get around to =
further mods on my setup, as it is now the thing is definitely too tall. =
I'm currently using a simple dial thermometer, but am considering =
getting one of the inexpensive thermocouples that have been mentioned on =
the list in the past. (I've saved those URL's :-)
