This is my second attempt to post this question. I have a 1200 watt HG and am wondering what weight/volume works well with this method. Roasted 150 grams to City today and it went very well. It was a demo for my brother who was impressed. I sent him home with nearly a lb of SM Monkey blend to roast. Another convert to the art of roasting. My first... You could do much larger batches than that, if you want to. Experiment with progressively larger volumes, until you reach your comfort zone.Container size is a limiting factor, of course. Personally I usually do 8oz batches, but I've successfully roasted 1lb batches before. My HG is 1400 watts, but I think 1200 should be quite sufficient. -Dave On Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 6:45 AM, Larry Williams wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20

I have moved to a 1500 watt HG because I found the 1200 was a bit lacking to roast the pound, or even a touch more, that I like to roast at a time. pecan jim On Aug 10, 2008, at 8:45 AM, Larry Williams wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20

When I'm not using my RK drum, I use my HG/DB. I use a Wagner #HT3500 - it says 1500 watts, my dog bowl, and a wooden spoon - no other supplies other than for cooling. I typically roast about 16 ounces in the warmer months and only 12 in the winter. I have done more with good results, but 16 ounces seems best in most weather. It does a great job and I get a nice even roast. These days, my son has begun roasting for profit (college student) and doing quite well. I often help with his roasting and we add our own family roast to the RK drum along with the customers! I'm not using the HG/DB as much, but I do really enjoy when I do use that method. Sue, How long does it take you to roast those quantities? When I am not using the new Behmor, I use the same HG as you have. Seems I recall that 360 grams beans would hit CITY+ (well into the gap between C1 and C2) in about 10 - 12 minutes in warm weather. "...second attempt to post this question. I have a 1200 watt HG and am wondering what weight/volume works well with this method. Roasted 150 grams to City today and it went very well." My Heat Gun is a Wagner HT 1000, also rated at 1,200 watts. I think 150g of beans should roast very well with your heat gun. 400g works all the time with mine. My Glorious People's Orange heat gun did OK on 900g on its next-to-last roast- maybe a bit much. Besides turning into a hand-held Roman Candle on roast #3, it taught me some Mandarin Chinese: "Warranty Just Expired." My daughter's 1875 watt hair dryer will roast nothing. Probably just dry the beans if I tried. Lots of power. Lots of airflow. Not so hot. Cheers, Mabuhay -RayO, aka Opa! Got Grinder?
