| What a miserable, gloomy and grey day. This morning we drank some Kenyan bean from Peets (my stepdaughter works there and brought it home to us). It was... terrible. We also have tried their Las Hermanas, which is also not good but not as terrible as the Kenyan. My wife, who used to be a diehard Peets drinker, breathed a sigh of relief when I told her I'd roast coffee tonight. Tonight I will roast and blend more of my Corazon de Mijo blend (brazilian formosa and the DP korate sidamo) and toast my dear beloved chihuahua, Mijo, who lost his fight with heart disease and left us on saturday. For such a little guy, he sure is leaving a huge hole in my heart. The house is far too quiet and far too empty. What a miserable, gloomy and grey day. -- Gary F. | This morning I finished up the last of the Tree Dried India coffee. It was very good, lots of fruit and and nice crisp finish. Right now I am drinking some of the Guatemala Yellow Bourbon. What a nice mellow coffee. It has a nice malted flavor with a hint of peanut butter. It is nice and smooth a real contrast to the first cup of the morning. A nice simple cup of coffee. | I started with a pot of "Sulawesi Grade One Toraja" that I roasted to Full City+ on Saturday... The beans and grounds smelled fine, but the coffee had an odd sharpness. Not enough rest? So I brewed a pot of "Nicaragua Pacamara Peaberry" that I roasted the same day to City. It's a very complex cup. I'm getting all the zesty pepperyness that Tom talks about in his notes. And talk about aftertaste... I can still taste it after a couple of hours... -Peter On Aug 19, 2008, at 10:32 AM, Gary Foster wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
| The morning was a FP of Ethiopia Organic Wet-Process Koratie... great as usual. Just after lunch my wife pulled a cake with fresh picked raspberries in it out out of the oven. This meant another FP, this time Panama Esmeralda Gesha Lot 10... smooth stuff. | Been gone for 6 weeks, first for a church trip, then on a few weeks of vacation. Backpacking and camping. Anyway, had 3 weeks of terrible coffee in Australia, then I've been drinking my own Homeroast while on vacay. So I was thinking that I wanted a nice, bright Ethiopian, the Yirgacheffe. Last night I was pretty disoriented, so I opened my cooler and pulled out the bag of Ethiopian and roasted it to a good City. I thought, "man, that's a lot of quakers for a Yirg!" Looked at the label: that's right, Harar! I didn't look at the label close enough and grabbed the first Ethiopian I saw! Anyway, it's the lightest roast I've put on the Harar. I'll see in a few days what I think. My morning cup was a Vac pot. I just finished an afternoon moka pot. Both great. I think I preferred the Moka pot. The first 5 pound bag I bought from Tom seemed to be bursting with blueberries. This stuff definitely tastes like Harar, with the wildness, but not much blueberries. Just a bit. Anyone else experiencing this? This is about my 4th roast on this 2nd bag of Harar, and it's just not very blueberry-y. | This morning it was Menno's Misty Valley, beans courtesy of Eddie. Roasted to City+ in the Gene Cafe Friday. Pure, chocolate covered orange candies. Just an awesome lot - distinct from the Idido version and equally delicious. -Scott On Tue, Aug 19, 2008 at 4:30 PM, John Haley wrote: <Snip> -- scottoscoffeeandtea.blogspot.com Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |

| Gary, I've been woefully behind in all of my emails - just now trying to catch up. I'm sorry I missed your post on Saturday - but now I'm sending you my belated condolences on the loss of your Mijo. With three dogs (one who is either a long haired chihuahua, or a papillion), I know just how much they wrap themselves around out hearts.
