Yesterday, I received the smallest order I ever made to SM. I got 2 lb. of Lot 10 Gesha, 2 lb. of RIP, and 1 lb. of Gual Gesha. I immediately roasted a batch of the lot 10 using the same profile I successfully used for lot 5, ending at 432. I saved the Guat Gesha for later and roasted a batch of Cerulean Warbler. Since Les has compared it to Kona in flavor, I tried using a generic Kona profile this time. I tasted those two today and the Lot 10 is wonderful -fruity and flowery, very similar to the lot 5, but I believe it has more intense flavors. The Warbler was also good, but I should have had it before the Gesha. Today I roasted a batch of the RIP. The beans are large and light in weight for their size, much like Monsooned Malabar. It took me awhile to figure out what they look like and I think that they look like large honey roasted peanuts with their reddish color. Tom recommended this be roasted dark, so I used a profile designed for Monsooned Malabar ending at
455. The beans were just getting into a rolling second when they were ejected. The bean munch tastes a bit carbony, but I rarely roast that dark so I am not used to tasting beans with that degree of roast. I chipped off the black parchment and the underlying bean was a medium dark brown so I think I probably stopped it at the right time. I will find out tomorrow.
