| So last night I decided I'd try some decaf in my recently tweaked (sensor area cleaned & shined, heat deflector bent) Behmor. Loaded up the regular mesh drum with 116 gm. of Ethiopia Sidamo Decaf, hit "1/4" and "start." This gave me 8:30. Not much seemed to be happening---no cracks, only a bit of aroma. At 0:59 left, I maxed out the time (2 min add'l). Almost immediately, first crack began, then a fusillade of first, and then the fusillade continued but only softer. I realized this was second, so at 1:15 left I hit "cool" and second crack coasted for another 10-15 sec. or so. Ended up with a Vienna roast, lots of oil but beans still rich dark brown, lighter than French. The aromas were unbelievable--upstairs, as I came to bed my husband asked me if I'd just made a pot of coffee (he usually asks if I'd been roasting again). After I've been sufficiently caffeinated (I had a morning AP of Metropolis' Schweik's Ottoman Adventure--FC, preroasted--of which I'd bought half a pound to tide me over till the family Sumatra and CR Peaberry has sufficiently rested; need my breve too), will try an AP of it and report back as to whether it tastes as good as it looks and smells. But it appears the Behmor is back in fine shape. | Excellent, glad to hear!! Been catching up on all the emails in July and first part of August and seems like this list has been pretty active on addressing colder Behmors. Good for you lot!bill On Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 12:10 PM, Sandy Andina wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
| Bill, I admire your doggedness in reading long things and long lists of things. I recall you reading something like 1,000 or 1,500 (Coffee Geek?) posts on the AeroPress and summarizing the results (I have your summary at home, next to my AP, which I still haven't found time to try). And now reading all the posts that you missed when you were traveling this summer. Pretty impressive. | Lame is what i call it! ;) I enjoy the social nature of the list, the chatter, and I've gleaned a number of really important things. Which is why we are all here. I wasn't going to buy the expensive gesha, but after some of the raves... maybe. maybe. But the discussion of profiles and environmental temp is going to propel my tweaking of my breadmachine, and is going to get plenty of experiments in the coming months. as John Despres sez: 'this is fun!' bill Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures -upload yours!) :http://www.sweetmariascoffee.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
