Topic: Espresso Pump Possibility (11 msgs / 228 lines)

The espresso techie types might be interested in this. I bought a pump for my Isomac Millenium. It isn't a pump normally used on espresso machines, but for industrial/commercial applications such as floor care machines and drinking water delivery systems. It will allow me to plumb-in the machine. And, it will fit inside the IM where the smallest Procon doesn't. I'll report back after it is installed, perhaps over the holiday. The pump is the ShurFlo 8000 series. We have such a pump already. It's our under-the-counter water pump that pumps drinking water from a 5 gallon jug to counter-top spigots. The one we have has pumped over 5 gallons a week for 10 years. Ought to last a LONG time in an espresso machine! They have dozens of variations on the pump. The 8000-812-639 I selected has an external, adjustable bypass good for 150 psi. In all other aspects -- size, price, flow, amperage, noise, and puslations -- it is between a vibe pump and rotary vane pump. Coward :-) LOL Did you get any photos of the real blast radius or is it something you are doing your best to bury deep in the recesses of your mind? When I hooked it up, the portafilter blew through the countertop and into my basement. Now I have a perfect, portafilter shaped hole where I can see what's going on down there. Now, for the espresso I made...at least what I could find, was outta this world. The grinds had been under so much pressure (3200PSI) they pretty much melded with the coffee brew. Now since the actual brew was actually the beans themselves, you can imagine the incredible 'bean like' taste. A true God shot. No, really. As I started the shot and was blown against the kitchen wall eight feet away, I do believe I saw God. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. *********************************************** Ed Needham To Absurdity and Beyond! homeroaster ... d.o.t ... com ***********************************************
